I heard Blake passed and I have to tell you, when I related the fact to my wife there were tears in my eyes.
I’m not one of the people in LA who has the chance to go to writing events, ,etc. I’m just a guy in South Carolina who writes screenplays. I read Blake’s book(s) and did something I rarely do: I contacted him through his email. I fully expected a form letter type of reply but instead got a personalized response. I have to tell you, the guy impressed me with his kindness and encouragement. I was touched and it still find it hard to believe.
Because of Blake’s encouragement, I entered the SCRIPTAPALOOZA screenwriting competition in 2008. To my surprise I actually made it to the quarterfinalist with my script “Abra-Ca-Diaper”. Yeah, I know it wasn’t a win – but it was more in way. Without Blake’s encouragement, I might never have even tried.
I didn’t know him personally, but receiving just a small token of his kindness helps me realize the loss his family and friends must feel. He was a wonderful person and his work will inspire a world of writers for many years to come.

I was in high school with Blake in Santa Barbara, California. We were in Theater Arts together in the 10th grade. I remember doing some improv skits with him and another friend/classmate named Joe Munda. As we were developing our skits I remember us just cracking up at the wild and wacky stuff we would come up with! I am so sad to hear about his passing

I watched Blake speak twice. I have watched a lot of people speak. Blake was different. I’m not a great writer or even a good writer, but that didn’t matter to Blake, when we all left the room after an emotional standing applause we were energized because Blake made us feel that we were all writers and should be proud and joyful to say it. One understated word for Blake – compassionate.
